Call For Me Early

Call for me early when the bush is still furled
With dew in the moonlight in a cold, winter world
As our white breath like ghost words flows on and is one
With mist in the valley where free rivers run

Call for me early on a warm summer’s eve
With waves rolling inward as steady as heartbeats
That leave lacey frill on the hem of the beach
And we’ll walk from the shadow of sorrow’s dark reach

Then I come tumbling down

Call for me early on the day I’m released
When walls fall away and captivity’s ceased
And the future unfolds lke a carpet of gold
And tomorrow unrolls all its ribbons of roads

Then I come tumbling down

And I know it’s only dreams that may never come to be
But everyone needs something to believe
And I hope there’s someone there but I fear that all my prayers
Belong to someone else that isn’t me

What keeps the stars pinned so high in the sky
And what do you think makes them fall
I’ve wished on each one now my wishing is done
And that is the saddest of all
Call for me early
