So We Bear Witness

from Folk Songs by Des Wade

/

about

This song is for the artists, singers, songwriters, musicians and the people, organisations, DJs and everyone else who support and promote our works. And so we sail on into the future, doing our best to respect and fullfill our calling; to do justice to that craft in which we believe. Thank you all!

lyrics

SO WE BEAR WITNESS

When in my mind visions and feelings chime
And harmonise in tune and rhyme
I can see I have received a sign
That this is time to bear witness

In humble and with heartfelt pleas
I hope one day someone might see I heard the chorus of life’s untold richness
Unfold before us – so I bear witness

And in my modest turns of phrase
In all good faith I believe that this is
My birthright - my destiny - my role to play
And so I say I will bear witness

Oh we play our part however small And in the siren sound of the muse’s call
See the duty now upon us fall
To bear witness to the beauty of it all

And to forgotten bards and poets
Who saw the world as only you could know it
With the gifts you gave from your diamond days
We may mark our time and maybe leave a trace

In some far-off place we do not know
Mystic magic winds may blow
And transport through time’s tangled ways
Our own streams and threads of music’s DNA

In future you – like us – who have no choice
May wonder why we were given voice
The answer simply may be it is
Just like you, we are here to bear witness

Bear witness to the beauty of it all
Bear witness to the beauty of it all
